Dental Implants in South Edmonton

Dental implants have changed the way we think about tooth replacement

Traditionally, teeth that have been lost have relied upon bridges or dentures to replace their bite surface. While bridges or partial dentures maintain the space between teeth and help with effective chewing, they do not promote jaw bone remineralization.

Dental implants are installed into the jaw bone, where their titanium roots bond with bone to strengthen and support the artificial root. When bite force is applied to the artificial tooth on an implant, the force is distributed into the bony structure that surrounds its artificial root and promotes remineralization. Without remineralization, the bone can resorb, leading to a loss of strength and integrity in the jaw.

What is Dental Implant Restoration?

Dental implant restoration is the process of completing the dental implantation process by placing the crown on the artificial root system. Once the titanium implant has had sufficient time to undergo osseointegration (bonding with bone tissue) and once the soft tissues have healed, you’ll see us complete your dental implantation process.

Implants Using CEREC Technology

Our patients enjoy the benefits of CEREC® technology for their implant restorations. With CEREC® crowns, we use a technology that uses computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing to produce a crown that integrates comfortably into the dental arch and looks just like a natural tooth. These crowns are produced on-site and can sometimes be installed the very same day.

How to Care For Dental Implants

Dental implants are strong and resistant to decay, making them easy to care for. However, the soft tissues around the implant are still subject to the effects of food debris or plaque bacteria that can accumulate around the implant. For this reason, we recommend caring for your dental implant as you care for your natural teeth. This means brushing your teeth at the beginning and end of the day, at a minimum, and flossing at least once daily.

Flossing between the crown and neighbouring teeth is necessary to prevent food debris from getting trapped between the implant and a natural tooth, which can lead to decay. Be sure to floss along the gum line to ensure that gums remain healthy and minimize the irritating effects of plaque.

Am I A Good Candidate?

If you are interested in learning more about dental implants or finding out if you are a candidate for the procedure, we recommend booking an appointment with one of our dental professionals. Your dentist will be able to offer intraoral scanning to determine whether your tissue structure would lend itself well to the procedure, as well as make recommendations about how to get started with one or more dental implants.

Root Canal Treatment

A root canal is a dental procedure designed to save a decayed or infected tooth. Despite its reputation, it’s not as scary as it sounds! Let’s demystify this treatment and see how our clinic can help you through the process.

What is a Root Canal?

In the simplest terms, a root canal is a treatment to repair and save a badly damaged or infected tooth instead of removing it. The procedure involves removing the damaged area of the tooth (the pulp), cleaning and disinfecting it, and then filling and sealing it.

Who Needs A Root Canal?

A root canal is typically recommended for patients who have severe tooth decay or an infection that has reached the pulp. Symptoms may include severe toothache, prolonged sensitivity to heat or cold, discoloration of the tooth, and swelling and tenderness in the nearby gums.

Common Misconceptions

Contrary to popular belief, root canals are not extraordinarily painful. In fact, with modern techniques and anesthesia, most patients report that they’re comfortable during the procedure.

Our Approach

Our clinic uses cutting-edge technology and techniques to ensure your root canal treatment is smooth and pain-free. Our experienced dentists use a state-of-the-art digital X-ray machine for accurate diagnosis. We also use rotary endodontics, a technique that employs electrically-powered instruments for root canal treatment, making the procedure faster and more comfortable than traditional methods.

Post-treatment care at our clinic includes a comprehensive guide on maintaining oral hygiene and managing any discomfort that may occur. Rest assured, our team is always available to address any concerns during your recovery period.

Addressing Concerns

While some discomfort post-procedure is normal, advancements in our techniques have significantly reduced pain during and after the procedure. Over-the-counter painkillers are usually sufficient to manage any post-treatment discomfort, which typically subsides within a few days.

Advice to Patients

To avoid needing a root canal, regular dental check-ups are crucial. These allow us to detect early signs of tooth decay and deal with them promptly. We recommend a check-up every six months or immediately if you experience symptoms such as prolonged toothache or sensitivity.

Our clinic believes in providing exceptional dental care that prioritizes your comfort and health. Trust us to guide you through your root canal treatment with professional care and expertise.
